Contact Your Texas Legislators to Request Support for Our Bills

First, find Your legislator.

Your elected officials want to hear from you about the issues you care about! The first step is to locate your Representative and Senator by using the Who Represents Me? website. Each legislator should have a phone number and email button.

Craft a concise and clear email to your legislators to share your concerns regarding family law policies in Texas. Share your story facts as simply as possible and without strong emotions that may distract from your personal experience coming through clearly. Provide links to any relevant bills and ask for their support specifically. Refer to this website’s home page for the list of family law bills that may be relevant to you.

Next, craft your message.

Then, stay up to date.

Consider creating a free Texas Legislature Online account to set up Bill Alerts for the issues you care about to be notified of status changes.

As part of the legislative process, your bill would need to have a hearing in a committee in the House and Senate, and this is your chance to testify. You can sign up for committee alerts here. Family bills typically will be heard in Juvenile Justice & Family Issues in the House and State Affairs in the Senate, but that can vary.

NPO Texas is working to address over 30 years of delayed public policy modernizations for Texas families.
